ABOUT US

Who Are We?

We are the Young Christian Students' (YCS) Movement. Founded in 1956, we are a Catholic students' movement by students for students in Christ present in 5 Catholic Secondary schools, namely Holy Innocents' High School, Catholic High School, St Joseph's Institution, St Gabriel's Secondary School and CHIJ Katong Convent. Students in secondary school journey together as a community through their formative years as teens. After finishing their secondary studies and moving into their tertiary education, they continue giving back to the movement by journeying with their juniors, taking up greater leadership appointments and having a greater involvement in the planning of events.

Through our regular cell groups sessions and national level events and retreats, many non-believers have been attracted to find out more about our Lord through the community as witnesses of faith and many eventually formally become Catholics.

Our movement makes use of the See, Judge, Act methodology. It serves as our review of life and models our spiritual reflections. This then invokes in us the call for Christian action, to 成己成人.

More About Us!

Our Vision

The Young Christian Students' Movement envisions a society where young people make a difference, and be the difference, to enable the transformation needed in order for everyone to live a life of dignity, worthy of God.

Our Mission

Our vision is lived out by forming young Christian leaders. YCS calls youth out of isolation into small groups where they come to know their true worth and dignity. It recognises that young people are the experts of their own reality and are often the best-placed people to be the means of transformation in their own lives. By following the See, Judge, Act methodology, they grow as Christian leaders, serving, educating and representing other young people.

Our Methodology

The See, Judge, Act methodology is the way we make decisions, learn, and grow by putting our faith into action.

See: Observe the situation, including its causes and effects.

Judge: Reflect on What Would Jesus Do and make a judgment (What you think should be happening? What is wrong/right? What should be done instead/better?)

Act: Plan and execute an action to overcome the difference between what should be happening (Judge) and what is actually happening (See).
